Mahatma and the Hare
One of William T Horton’s illustrations to H Rider Haggard’s The Mahatma and the Hare, a Dream Story (1911). The book was reputedly inspired by a story of a hare that swam out to sea to avoid being captured by the pursuing hounds. Horton was immersed in the occult and esoteric scene of the late nineteenth century and championed by W.B.Yeats among others.
