Plate 70 of William Blakes‘ Jerusalem:The Emanation of the Giant Albion, completed between 1804-21. An eclipse of the sun viewed through a trilithon by three figures standing on a road. The Druids, according to Blake, introduced the application of reason to nature which signaled the end of his innocent age of Jerusalem. It has been suggested that the three druidic figures represent Bacon, Locke, and Newton, principal architects of the scientific method.
