This card has a dancing theme and uses marginal fragments from the medieval illuminated manuscipt The Romance of Alexander. This fictionalised account of the life of Alexander the Great appeared in various popular iterations throughout the middle ages.
The images on the used on the card are drawn from perhaps the finest manuscript version which is now kept by the Bodleian Library (Bodley 264), Oxford. The illustrations were completed by Flemish illuminator Jehan de Grise in 1344.
