The original was recovered from Antioch, Beirut or Smyrna and would have been used to fasten a cloak. It dates from the 10 – 12th century AD. This beautifully stylized horse seems to have a saddle attached. saddle.
It is now housed in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
