A Dybbuk is, according to Jewish folklore, a malevolent soul of a deceased person which has possessed one of the living. The idea was popularised by a 1914 play of the same name written by S.Ansky. The plays' alternative title of Between Two Worlds is a reference to the disembodied nature of the entity. Medical commentators suggest that the hallucinatory nature of the Dybbuk is a manifestation of mental illness.
