Baba Yaga is a frightening and ambiguous female figure from Slavic folklore. She dwells in a hut in the woods and may assist or obstruct those she comes into contact with. She is best known from the story of Vasilisa the Fair. This illustration from 1900, in an Art Nouveau style, is by the Russian artist Ivan Bilibin.
