Published in 1678, this pamphlet tells of a field of oats that was mysteriously mown by a devil or “ſome Infernal Spirit” during the night. The phenomenon of arable fields mysteriously laid low in the hours of darkness is today termed a crop circle. These days they tend to appear in the West Country rather than the Home Counties, and are the subject of extensive study and speculation.
