A bronze plated galloping horse brooch replica, the original dates from the 2nd century AD.
The body and neck are inlaid with green enamel dappled with white spots.
The original artefact was recovered from a house in Roman Verulamium, and may be seen in the nearby museum in St . Albans.
The horse was of course a hugely significant animal and has been revered in many cultures from ancient times. The Celtic goddess Epona took the form of a horse.
