I am delighted to announce the launch of the official Bird Therapy t shirt on World Mental Health Awareness Day, 10th October 2019.
This has been produced in partnership with my friends and supporters at Hare and Tabor (www.hareandtabor.co.uk), and 100% of the profits from the sale of the shirt will be split between The Samaritans (www.samaritans.org) and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (www.wwt.org). Given the nature of the project, it seemed only fitting that the beneficiaries should include both a wildlife and a mental health charity.
The WWT seeks to conserve wetlands and the wildlife associated with them. It is a habitat of rich biodiversity but is fast disappearing, and the work of the organisation helps ensure that these unique environments remain accessible to all of us.
The Samaritans provides vital emotional support for those experiencing mental distress and at risk of suicide. It is a free service that is available 24 hours a day, and offers a forum free of judgement for the volatile thoughts and feelings we may experience at these times.
The collaboration originated after I forwarded some photographs of myself wearing a Hare and Tabor t shirt that were taken for a piece about my project in The Guardian. We started a conversation, and very soon the idea of a fund raising shirt began to take shape
The design has an elegant and bold simplicity and originates from the embossed book cover of W.S. Berridge’s All About Birds (1934). It is a stylised bird, but has the appearance of a hirundine hybrid that does not exist in real life.
